Vivek Venkataswamy pushes Chennur model municipality plan

Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy accelerated development works in Chennur after announcing plans to transform the town into a Chennur model municipality with improved urban infrastructure.

Local leaders and residents inaugurated solar panel high mast lights across several wards of Kyathanpalli Municipality over the past three days. Officials said the installations formed part of the Chennur model municipality development plan.

Solar lights were installed at Gadderagadi Vinayaka Colony in Ward 8 and the old vegetable market in Lenin Nagar in Ward 20. Additional installations covered Kyathanpalli Cross Road, Ganesh Township, Padmavati Colony in Old Thimmapur in Ward 9 and Ganga Colony in Ward 16.

Authorities executed the lighting works at an estimated cost of ₹17.50 lakh. Residents earlier requested improved lighting facilities in these areas. They said the new installations improved safety in public spaces.

Locals noted that the lighting allows children to play safely in open spaces. It also improves security during community gatherings and festivals such as Bathukamma.

Chennur model municipality project expands civic infrastructure

Similar solar high mast lights were installed in Chennur Municipality at Padmasali Kalyana Mandapam Street in Ward 9 and near Kammalolla Vada Pedda Bavi in Jendawada in Ward 2. Congress leaders said the authorities plan to extend the installations to all 18 wards.

Municipal workers also carried out sanitation drives in several neighbourhoods. They cleared sewer drains in Kajipura, Bokkalagudem and Jendawada in Ward 2 as part of the initiative.

Earlier in the last week of February, the Minister presented a detailed development roadmap for the town. He asked local representatives to accelerate infrastructure works.

Officials said projects worth about ₹50 crore have already begun. These include borewells, cement concrete roads and side drains across the municipality.

Under the AMRUT 2.0 programme, authorities will supply drinking water to every household. The government also plans a project to bring Godavari river water to the town.

Road widening works will start soon under the development plan. In addition, community halls for various caste associations are under construction with government support.

Authorities said residents would receive Godavari sand supply within six months. The government has also sanctioned 100 Indiramma houses for the town.

Meanwhile, farmers in Devulawada, Babberu and Cheluk villages received compensation of about ₹18 crore. Officials also plan to inaugurate a 100-bed hospital in Chennur in May under the Chennur model municipality programme.
