Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister Dr. G. Vivek Venkatswamy outlined a roadmap for a Chennur model municipality and directed elected representatives to accelerate development across all sectors.
He attended the charge-taking ceremony of Municipal Chairperson Peddinti Padma as chief guest. On the occasion, he congratulated the new Chairperson and governing body members. He also thanked the people of Chennur for electing Congress representatives.
Accordingly, he urged councillors to stay accessible to residents. They must listen to grievances and resolve key issues without delay. In addition, he said public trust should guide every administrative decision.
At present, officials are executing works in all wards. The government has grounded projects worth about ₹50 crore. Contractors are laying borewells, CC roads and side drains in several areas. Moreover, he assured that authorities will supply drinking water to every household under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, fulfilling an election promise.
₹50 crore works drive Chennur model municipality vision
Meanwhile, he accused the previous government of misusing thousands of crores under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme. Therefore, he announced a dedicated drinking water project using Godavari river water for town residents. Besides this, the municipality will soon begin road widening works.
Earlier, the government allocated funds to build community halls for caste associations. Following public demand, officials will supply Godavari sand to local residents within six months. He recalled that autos once struggled to ply in Maremmavada due to poor roads. However, authorities laid proper roads there after his election.
Further, the government sanctioned 100 new Indiramma houses for the municipality. The Cabinet also reviewed issues linked to the housing scheme. At the same time, he criticised the previous government for failing to clear contractors’ pending bills.
In addition, officials sanctioned and distributed about ₹18 crore as compensation to farmers in Devulawada, Babberu and Cheluk villages. The town will inaugurate a 100-bed hospital in May. Authorities are also developing the crematorium at a cost of ₹1.20 crore.
Referring to his in-charge role in Medak district, he said he had strengthened the Congress party there. Similarly, he pledged to mobilise more funds and speed up works to realise the Chennur model municipality goal. Finally, he urged all stakeholders to work together for the town’s overall development.
