Hyderabad: Two members of the National Guard were seriously injured in a violent incident near the White House on Wednesday evening. The attack took place two blocks away from the presidential residence. Authorities detained one suspect after the firing. FBI officials identified him as Rahmanullah Lakanwal. They stated that he arrived in the United States from Afghanistan in August 2021.
Lakanwal applied for refugee status in 2024. Officials confirmed that the approval came earlier this year. Investigators said he waited near Farragut West Metro Station before the attack. They added that he remained in the area for some time. Witnesses reported sudden gunfire around 2:15 pm.
According to early information, the suspect first shot a woman guard in the chest. Then he fired a second shot at her head. He later targeted another guard with additional rounds. The sequence of firing created panic around the station. Responders reached the location shortly after.
