NHRC notice seeks report on minor’s alleged sexual assault in Greater Noida

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a NHRC notice over the reported sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Greater Noida.

The Commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report about the alleged incident. The report concerned a bus driver and conductor in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the report, the girl boarded a bus from Greater Noida on 4th August 2026. The report alleged that the two accused sexually assaulted her.

It also alleged that the perpetrators threatened the girl with harm. They reportedly left her at the Kashmere Gate Bus Terminal in Delhi.

The NHRC said the reported facts, if true, raised serious human rights concerns. Therefore, the Commission directed senior police officials to submit detailed reports.

The Commission issued notices to the Police Commissioners of Delhi and Gautam Budh Nagar. It also issued a notice to the Superintendent of Police, Mainpuri.

The officials must submit their reports within two weeks. The NHRC has sought details on the status of the investigation.

The Commission has also asked the authorities to state whether the victim received any compensation. If compensation was paid, the report must include relevant details.

The NHRC action followed a media report published on 31st August 2026. The report described the circumstances leading to the girl’s journey from Mainpuri to Noida.

According to that report, the girl had left her home in Mainpuri to visit her cousin. She intended to travel to Sector 63 in Noida.

However, she reportedly missed her stop and got down at Pari Chowk. From there, she boarded another bus after confirming its destination.

The report said the girl boarded the second bus after being assured that it would travel to Sector 63. The subsequent events form part of the allegations examined by the NHRC.

The Commission has not made a final finding on the allegations. Instead, it has sought an official account from the concerned police authorities.

The NHRC notice requires the police authorities to provide a detailed report within two weeks. The response will cover the investigation and any compensation provided to the victim.

The Commission’s action followed its consideration of the reported facts. It said the allegations, if established, would raise serious human rights issues.

The notices involve authorities in Delhi, Gautam Budh Nagar and Mainpuri. These areas relate to the reported journey and the subsequent handling of the case.

Meanwhile, the NHRC will await the reports from the concerned police authorities. The information will help the Commission assess the action taken in the matter.

The Commission has also sought clarity on the investigation’s progress. In addition, it wants details of any compensation paid to the victim.

The reported incident began with the girl’s journey from Mainpuri to Noida. She had planned to visit her cousin in Sector 63.

After missing her intended stop, she reportedly alighted at Pari Chowk. She then boarded another bus after checking that it was headed towards Sector 63.

The media report alleged that the bus driver and conductor later assaulted her. It also reported that they threatened her and left her at Kashmere Gate in Delhi.

The NHRC took cognizance of the report on 1st September 2026. Its notices now seek information from the three police authorities concerned.

The Commission’s inquiry at this stage is based on the reported allegations. The police reports will provide information about the investigation and any assistance or compensation provided.

The NHRC notice therefore marks the Commission’s intervention in the reported case. It also places responsibility on the concerned authorities to provide a detailed account within the specified period.

The NHRC said it would examine the matter in light of the information submitted by the authorities. Further action, if any, will depend on the reports received by the Commission.
