Hyderabad: Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna warned Singareni management against compromising on worker safety in coal mines.
The MP made the remarks in Ramagundam while referring to a recent accident at the 11 Incline RG-1 mine. A worker suffered a knee injury and required six stitches.
Vamsi Krishna said the incident narrowly avoided becoming a major tragedy. He stressed that Singareni safety must remain the management’s highest priority.
“Today, that worker escaped with six stitches. Tomorrow, a similar situation must not turn fatal. Nothing is more important than a worker’s life,” the MP said.
He called for strict implementation of safety measures across the mines. In particular, he highlighted areas prone to collapse and underground zones that pose risks to workers.
The MP also said Singareni should use new technology to protect workers. He stressed that technology should serve safety needs rather than focus only on increasing production.
Vamsi Krishna also referred to a recent accident in Bellampalli. He urged Singareni management to conduct a comprehensive review of its safety system.
Such a review, he said, should identify weaknesses and help prevent similar accidents. He also called for stronger safeguards in areas where workers face higher risks.
The MP said worker protection should guide decisions involving mining operations. Therefore, Singareni management should ensure that production targets do not weaken safety standards.
He stressed that every mining operation must give proper attention to workers’ lives. At the same time, he called for stronger monitoring of underground working areas.
Vamsi Krishna also raised the issue of railway connectivity for North Telangana. He said the Railway Department had a responsibility to improve links with Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
He said he had repeatedly sought additional trains between Sirpur Kaghaznagar and Hyderabad. The MP also met Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar during the Parliament session.
During that meeting, Vamsi Krishna explained the transport needs of people in the region. He said better rail services were necessary for a region that contributes substantial revenue.
Singareni safety warning comes with rail and civic demands
Vamsi Krishna questioned why a revenue-generating region should lack adequate railway connectivity. He urged the Railway Board to conduct a need-based study.
According to the MP, the study should consider both the source of railway revenue and the travel needs of the public. He said these factors should guide decisions on train services.
The MP welcomed the recent test run and the special trains announced for the festive season. However, he said temporary measures would not be enough.
He urged the Railway Department to take steps to permanently strengthen connectivity between Sirpur Kaghaznagar and Hyderabad.
Better rail links, he said, would address the long-term travel needs of people in North Telangana. He also sought a system that responds to actual demand in the region.
Vamsi Krishna also raised the pending issue of land for Ambedkar Bhavan. He said around Rs 50 lakhs had already been allocated from his MPLADS funds.
The MP said the Collector was following up on the matter. However, he asked Singareni management to allocate the required land without further delay.
“I have already allocated the funds, and the Collector is following up on the matter. The Singareni management must now allocate the land immediately without further delay and pave the way for the construction of the Ambedkar Bhavan,” he said.
Vamsi Krishna said the allocation had already cleared an important step for the proposed building. He now sought action from Singareni management on the land requirement.
The MP’s demands covered three key issues affecting the region. These included Singareni safety, railway connectivity and land for Ambedkar Bhavan.
On mining safety, he sought stronger safeguards after accidents at RG-1 and Bellampalli. On rail services, he sought permanent connectivity between Sirpur Kaghaznagar and Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, the Ambedkar Bhavan proposal has already received around Rs 50 lakhs through his MPLADS funds. The remaining issue, according to the MP, was land allocation by Singareni management.
Vamsi Krishna urged the concerned authorities to act on the three issues. He stressed that worker safety, public transport needs and community infrastructure required timely attention.
