Hyderabad: Electoral Roll Observer Ilambarithi, IAS, on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Hyderabad District.
He visited the M.S. Maktha Hearing Centre opposite Lok Bhavan along with District Election Officer Hyderabad R. V. Karnan, IAS, and GHMC Additional Commissioner (Elections) Santhosh Badhavath, IAS.
The centre covers 19 polling stations, numbered 104 to 122, under the 60-Khairathabad Assembly Constituency. During the visit, the officials reviewed notice cases and the hearings taking place at the centre.
Ilambarithi also interacted with electors who appeared for hearings. The officials examined the supporting documents submitted by them and reviewed the basis for decisions in individual cases.
They gave particular attention to 2002 SIR linkage, document scrutiny and corrections in electoral roll details. They also examined the grounds on which authorities proposed cases for disposal.
The Election Commission of India’s electoral-roll framework provides for scrutiny of claims, objections and corrections through the prescribed procedure. Its SIR framework also stresses the preparation of accurate electoral rolls.
SIR hearings focus on due process
During the inspection, the officials directed election authorities to examine every case objectively. They also asked officials to dispose of cases strictly according to Election Commission of India guidelines.
In addition, they stressed the need to give electors a proper and reasonable opportunity to present their cases before authorities take a decision. This follows the wider electoral-roll process of examining claims and objections through due procedure.
SIR hearings officials further emphasised accuracy throughout the SIR process. They said authorities should follow due procedure while handling documents, corrections and case disposals.
The field visit formed part of the ongoing review of the revision process in Hyderabad District. The officials stressed that careful scrutiny would support the preparation of a credible and error-free electoral roll.
