Hyderabad: In the phone tapping case, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday indicated that the Special Investigation Team will issue notices to former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao and former ministers K T Rama Rao and T Harish Rao after the Assembly session.
Political sources said the Chief Minister shared this indication during informal interactions. The development triggered sharp reactions from the BRS. Senior leader Jagadish Reddy accused the government of politicising the investigation.
Jagadish Reddy said Revanth Reddy had raised several allegations since assuming office. He claimed the Chief Minister earlier criticised power supply. He added that Revanth Reddy fell silent after official reports confirmed 24-hour electricity.
Referring to irrigation issues, Jagadish Reddy said the Chief Minister also attacked the Kaleshwaram project. Courts later directed repairs, he noted. He alleged that the government used selective issues to target the opposition.
Sources tracking the probe said the phone tapping case took a major turn after the SIT recorded key statements. They said the team had begun preparations to serve notices once the Assembly concludes.
Investigators are examining claims made by former senior police officer Prabhakar Rao. He allegedly told the SIT that phone surveillance occurred during the previous regime. Officials are verifying whether senior political leaders directed the operations.
Phone tapping case: SIT probes role of former ministers
As part of the phone tapping case, the SIT is also examining allegations involving a private news channel’s managing director. Investigators are checking claims that the channel aided illegal surveillance.
Officials said preliminary findings suggest different roles for senior leaders. Sources claim Harish Rao allegedly coordinated surveillance in some cases. They also claim K T Rama Rao allegedly sought phone tapping in others.
The SIT is analysing call data, technical logs and official communications. Teams are cross-checking digital evidence with witness statements. Officers said the process remains evidence-driven.
The government said it will follow due process. Officials clarified that the SIT will issue notices strictly as per law. KCR, KTR and Harish Rao had not issued any response at the time of filing this report.
