Hyderabad: The Congress received an overwhelming response to Hyderabad DCC applications as it intensified preparations for the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections, Hyderabad District Congress Committee president Syed Khalid Saifullah said on Saturday.
Applicants submitted a large number of forms through the recently launched online process before the January 4 deadline. Khalid said the response reflected growing public confidence in the Congress under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s leadership.
According to him, the Hyderabad DCC has already begun preparations for the GHMC elections. He said the party will soon convene a detailed strategy meeting to finalise ward-level plans across all 44 divisions under the DCC’s jurisdiction.
Referring to government initiatives, Khalid said Congress welfare schemes have started showing visible results. He said residents in Old City areas experienced the impact most clearly.
He claimed that more than 70 per cent of the Old City population benefited from free bus travel for women. The government also issued new ration cards and supplied fine rice to thousands of families, he added.
Hyderabad DCC applications reflect renewed public trust
Khalid said these initiatives helped rebuild trust among residents who felt neglected in the past. He also said progress on the long-pending Old City Metro Rail project boosted public confidence.
The Hyderabad DCC president said the party’s focus extended beyond elections to long-term development. He said the Old City, which leaders ignored for decades, now shows visible progress under the Congress government.
Expressing confidence, Khalid said welfare measures and infrastructure projects will translate into strong electoral gains and added that the current momentum signals a positive shift in urban voter sentiment ahead of the GHMC polls.
He also confirmed that the party will announce the final list of Hyderabad DCC office bearers after completing scrutiny of the applications. He said the leadership will follow a merit-based selection process.
The party will give special emphasis to representation for women, youth, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes and minority communities, as recommended by AICC observers. Khalid said the organisational restructuring will strengthen the Congress in Hyderabad and help it regain public trust in urban areas.
