Telangana Family Register will ease burden on poor families, says Shabbir Ali
Hyderabad: Advisor to the Telangana Government Mohammed Ali Shabbir welcomed the State Government’s decision to introduce the Telangana Family Register, saying the reform would reduce the documentation burden on poor and economically weaker families while making access to government services easier.
Referring to G.O.Ms. No. 172 issued by the Revenue Department on July 25, Shabbir Ali congratulated Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for launching what he described as another major administrative reform. He said the initiative reflected the Congress government’s commitment to transparent, accessible and citizen-friendly governance.
Shabbir Ali recalled that on July 13 he had submitted a representation to the Chief Minister seeking the introduction of a Permanent Residence Certificate on the lines of Karnataka. He said the proposal aimed to help genuine residents facing documentation issues, especially during the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. However, he added that the new Family Register addressed a broader administrative need by creating an authenticated digital record of family composition using the Food Security Card database.
He said poor families, senior citizens, widows, daily wage workers and other vulnerable groups often struggle to prove family relationships while applying for government services. As a result, many citizens must obtain certificates from multiple departments and make repeated visits to government offices for verification.
Telangana Family Register to simplify family verification
Shabbir Ali said the Telangana Family Register would provide a single government-authenticated record of an entire family, significantly reducing hardship for people who find it difficult to preserve old records or secure multiple certificates.
He said the Family Register Certificate would include digitally verified details of the head of the family, other family members, their relationship, age, gender, Aadhaar particulars and address based on the Food Security Card database. The certificate would be issued through MeeSeva after verification and digital approval by the Tahsildar, ensuring greater transparency, uniformity and efficiency across government departments.
He said the initiative would save citizens both time and money by removing the need to repeatedly obtain separate documents to establish family composition. Eligible families would be able to secure a digitally signed Family Register Certificate within the prescribed timeline, making government services easier to access.
Describing the reform as a milestone in Telangana’s digital governance journey, Shabbir Ali said the verified family database would streamline verification procedures, improve coordination among departments and strengthen public service delivery.
He expressed confidence that the Family Register would support future citizen-centric initiatives and thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for introducing the reform, saying it would improve the lives of ordinary citizens while strengthening Telangana’s digital governance framework.
