Hyderabad: Power sector reforms carried out by the Telangana government strengthened electricity supply to farmers and the public, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said in the Legislative Council on Monday.
Replying during Question Hour on the power department, Bhatti Vikramarka said the People’s Government placed quality electricity services at the centre of its agenda. He said the government cleared long-pending issues while modernising service delivery across the state.
From January 2022 to December 2025, officials reviewed all pending applications and sanctioned 3,44,462 new agricultural power connections, he said. To meet load requirements, the department installed 75,686 new transformers during the same period.
Bhatti Vikramarka said officials released power connections strictly by seniority, without any discrimination. He added that the government would sanction transformers to another 9,700 farmers once line works were completed. He noted that the release of nearly 2 lakh connections in 2024 and 2025 showed the impact of power sector reforms.
Power sector reforms focus on rapid field-level service delivery
Explaining new initiatives, Bhatti Vikramarka said the government introduced “electricity ambulances” on the lines of 108 emergency services. Consumers can register power complaints by calling the 1912 toll-free number, he said.
Once a complaint is logged, a response vehicle reaches the site without delay. Each vehicle carries a mobile transformer, thermal vision cameras and safety equipment. An engineer and two staff members attend the fault and restore supply quickly, he added.
Bhatti Vikramarka said the state had no shortage of transformers, poles or wires. Under the “Praja Bata” programme, officials spend three days a week in the fields to fix bent poles and hanging wires. He assured the House that officials would resolve any written complaint from members within 24 hours.
