Congress fast-tracks Hyderabad DCC reconstitution ahead of GHMC polls

Hyderabad: The Congress party fast-tracked the Hyderabad DCC reconstitution process on Tuesday to strengthen grassroots organisation ahead of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.

Party observers Mohammad Javeed and Subramanyam held consultations with applicants for key organisational posts. Hyderabad DCC president Syed Khalid Saifullah and senior leaders also participated in the meetings.

The consultations covered posts including vice-president, general secretary, social media coordinator and spokesperson. Assembly in-charges from Chandrayangutta, Bahadurpura, Yakutpura, Charminar and Malakpet constituencies were present during the discussions.

Speaking to reporters, Khalid Saifullah said the new Hyderabad DCC team would be announced shortly. He said the party adopted a transparent and consultative method for appointments for the first time.

Earlier, the party followed a nomination-based process. However, the new system focused on recognising committed workers and selecting candidates based on merit, he said.

The online application process for Hyderabad DCC posts closed on January 4. Khalid said the process received a strong response from party workers across the Old City.

Hyderabad DCC reconstitution focuses on grassroots mobilisation

Khalid Saifullah said the DCC had begun preparations for the GHMC elections. He added that ward-level work across all 44 divisions would start soon.

A strategy meeting would be held shortly to finalise election plans, he said. Khalid attributed the enthusiasm among workers to public confidence in the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

He said several welfare schemes had made a visible impact in Old City areas. These included free bus travel for women, ration card distribution and free fine rice supply.

Khalid said over 70 percent of the Old City population had benefited from these schemes. He added that ongoing metro rail works further strengthened public confidence.

He said the party’s focus extended beyond elections and included long-term development. According to him, the Old City witnessed progress after decades of neglect.

The final list of Hyderabad DCC office bearers would be announced after scrutiny of applications. Khalid said the process would ensure representation for women, youth, SC, ST, BC and minority communities, as recommended by AICC observers.
