ECI National Round Table Conference after 27 years

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India will hold the ECI Round Table meet with State Election Commissioners on February 24 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, marking the first such conference in 27 years.

Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar will chair the meeting. Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi will also attend. The last such conference took place in 1999.

State Election Commissioners from all States and Union Territories will participate with their legal and technical experts. Chief Electoral Officers of all 36 States and Union Territories will also attend.

The ECI Round Table meet aims to improve coordination between the ECI and SECs. It will focus on electoral processes and logistics within their legal frameworks. In addition, the conference seeks to reinforce cooperative federalism in election management.

ECI Round Table meet to discuss EVMs and ECINET platform

During the day-long conference, officials will discuss sharing of technology, Electronic Voting Machines and Electoral Rolls. They will also examine steps to strengthen electoral processes.

Senior Commission officials will present key technological and operational initiatives. These include the recently launched ECINET digital platform and its role in streamlining electoral services. Moreover, presentations will explain safeguards and transparency measures built into EVMs.

A comparative presentation on State and UT-wise eligibility of electors under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 will also be made. This will help informed discussions on legal frameworks governing Electoral Roll preparation.

State Election Commissions were created under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments. They supervise preparation of electoral rolls and conduct elections to Panchayats and Municipal Bodies under Articles 243K and 243ZA.
