Ponnam Prabhakar announces free RTC travel for exam students

Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced free RTC travel for students appearing for Intermediate and Class 10 examinations across the State.

Students can board RTC buses and show their hall tickets to travel without charge. They may also get down near their examination centres. The Minister said RTC had taken steps to prevent inconvenience during the exam season.

He reviewed arrangements at a meeting with senior officials at the Secretariat on Tuesday. Intermediate examinations will begin on February 25. Meanwhile, Class 10 exams will start from March 14.

Importantly, the free RTC travel facility will apply even during peak hours. Therefore, the Minister directed officials to operate additional buses in the morning and afternoon. He said the review followed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s instructions to ensure smooth transport services.

Free RTC travel extended during exam hours

Ponnam Prabhakar asked RTC authorities to give special attention to students from rural areas. Accordingly, officials extended bus services to interior villages to improve access to centres.

He also directed drivers to stop buses near examination venues even if there is no designated stop. Students can show their hall tickets and request a halt close to the centre, he clarified.

Furthermore, the Minister instructed depot managers to inform drivers and conductors about the facility. He urged students to use the free RTC travel provision confidently and focus on their performance.

Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, RTC Managing Director Nagi Reddy, Executive Directors and other senior officials attended the meeting.
