New Delhi: The Centre said India’s energy supplies robust despite evolving hostilities in the Middle East, assuring that crude and petroleum stocks remain adequate to handle short-term disruptions.
Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri briefed the media on Tuesday about the country’s preparedness. He said India, as the third largest importer and fourth largest refiner globally, has maintained sufficient inventories of crude oil and key products such as petrol, diesel and ATF.
He stated that the government has diversified crude procurement in recent years to ensure both availability and affordability. Therefore, Indian energy companies now access supplies that do not pass through the Strait of Hormuz, reducing exposure to potential disruptions.
Energy supplies robust with diversified sourcing and monitoring
The Minister said alternative cargo routes would remain available even if shipments through the Strait of Hormuz face temporary challenges. As a result, the government remains reasonably comfortable with the current stock position.
In addition, the Ministry has set up a 24×7 control room to monitor petroleum product supplies and inventories across the country. Officials are reviewing the situation continuously to safeguard consumer interests.
He said the government remains cautiously optimistic about managing the evolving global energy scenario. Furthermore, authorities stand ready to implement phased measures if required to mitigate any emerging risks.
