Hyderabad: State Labour, Employment and Mines Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy unveiled the poster of the Taekwondo Premier League Season–2 (Leg One – Male) at The Park Hyderabad, highlighting the growing importance of the sport in the state.
The minister congratulated players and team owners who arrived from different states for the selection trials. He said the Taekwondo Premier League would serve as a strong platform to identify talented athletes for the Global International Premier League scheduled in the Philippines from June 25 to 28. According to him, such competitions help athletes gain exposure and prepare for international events.
Taekwondo Premier League boosts talent and opportunities
Organisers, including founder director Ganesh Duvvuri and co-founder Bachu Navaneeth, attended the event along with honorary chairman Raunaq Yar Khan. They emphasised that the league aims to nurture emerging talent and create structured opportunities for players across India.
Speaking at the event, Vivek said taekwondo is steadily emerging as a modern and competitive sport. Moreover, he noted that it promotes discipline, fitness, and mental strength, similar to other martial arts like karate. As a result, more young people are showing interest in taking up the sport professionally.
He further pointed out that such leagues not only encourage participation but also help build a strong sporting culture in the state. In addition, they provide a pathway for athletes to compete at higher levels.
Government support strengthens Taekwondo Premier League growth
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the minister said Telangana is actively promoting sports development. He appreciated the organisers for successfully hosting the event and expanding the reach of taekwondo.
Furthermore, he said he would meet Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari to seek additional support for the sport. This includes better infrastructure, training facilities, and recognition for athletes.
Overall, the event reflects the increasing popularity of taekwondo in Telangana. With continued support and organised platforms, the sport is expected to grow further and produce athletes capable of competing on global stages.
