Telangana education budget allocates Rs 26,674 crore for student welfare

Hyderabad: The Telangana government allocated Rs 26,674 crore under the Telangana education budget for 2026-27, expanding welfare schemes and infrastructure to improve access and learning outcomes.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said the Telangana education budget prioritised quality education, infrastructure and skill development. He added that the plan aimed to prepare students for changing economic needs.

A key measure includes a breakfast scheme for students from pre-primary to Intermediate level. Officials said this would improve attendance and concentration. Students will receive milk three days a week and ragi malt on other days.

Moreover, the government extended the midday meal scheme to Intermediate students in government junior colleges. This move targets better nutrition during adolescence. It is also expected to reduce absenteeism and improve academic performance.

The Telangana education budget also focuses on infrastructure. The government will establish Young India Integrated Residential Schools across Assembly constituencies. These schools aim to provide inclusive and modern education facilities.

Telangana education budget expands schools and higher education

The government plans to construct 105 residential schools with digital classrooms and hostels. At the same time, pre-primary sections will be expanded in government schools to strengthen early learning.

In addition, the budget gives special attention to girls’ education. Several Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas will be upgraded and developed as centres of excellence.

The government also allocated Rs 100 crore to modernise kitchens in hostels and residential schools. This step aims to improve hygiene and food quality.

Higher education received major funding under the Telangana education budget. Osmania University was allocated Rs 1,000 crore, while Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University received Rs 400 crore.

Furthermore, new degree and engineering colleges will be established to expand access. A Skill University is also proposed to align education with industry needs.

Polytechnic colleges and ITIs will be upgraded into Advanced Technology Centres. These centres will offer modern courses and practical training. Scholarships will support students in skill programmes.

The Finance Minister said the Telangana education budget aims to build a skilled workforce. He added that education remains central to long-term economic growth and employment generation.
