Modern warfare needs prepared citizens, says Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said modern warfare now goes beyond borders and requires both a strong military and prepared citizens to safeguard national interests.

Addressing the Diamond Jubilee of Sainik School Ghorakhal, he said national security now includes economic, digital, energy and food security. Therefore, he stressed that citizens must stay alert and ready to respond to emerging threats.

He noted that the government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is equipping armed forces with advanced technology. However, he said citizens, especially youth, must also build mental strength and discipline.

Moreover, he urged students to adopt a new approach to challenges. Referring to the concept of VUCA, he encouraged them to develop Vision, Understanding, Courage and Adaptability.

Modern warfare demands skilled youth and inclusive participation

Rajnath Singh highlighted steps to involve more youth in nation-building. He said the government plans to establish 100 new Sainik Schools under a public-private partnership model.

In addition, he said the capacity of the National Cadet Corps has increased from 17 lakh to 20 lakh cadets. This expansion aims to strengthen discipline and leadership among young citizens.

He also described the admission of girls into Sainik Schools as a historic move. He said these students will become torchbearers of women empowerment and contribute across sectors.

Furthermore, he praised the legacy of Sainik School Ghorakhal, which has produced hundreds of officers for the armed forces. He expressed confidence that the institution will continue to nurture future leaders.

Overall, Rajnath Singh said modern warfare requires collective preparedness. He emphasised that both military strength and citizen readiness remain key to national security.
