Hyderabad: Beginning November 15, 2025, travellers on National Highways will pay differently at toll plazas depending on their payment mode. The Government of India has amended the rules to promote digital payments at toll plazas and reduce cash dependency.
As per the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) (Third Amendment) Rules, 2025, vehicles without a valid FASTag will pay double the toll if they choose to pay in cash. If they opt for UPI, they will be charged 1.25 times the regular fee. For example, a ₹100 toll would cost ₹200 in cash and ₹125 via UPI.
Aim to improve transparency and cut congestion
Officials said this rule would promote smoother traffic movement and enhance transparency in toll management. It aligns with the government’s long-term vision of digital governance and cashless infrastructure.
The amendment is expected to further accelerate India’s shift towards Digital payments, reduce human intervention at toll plazas, and ensure faster, safer commuting.
