GHMC clears encroachments in Attapur, demolitions trigger protests

Hyderabad: GHMC officials cleared Attapur encroachments along a key road stretch and carried out demolitions under heavy police security.

Authorities targeted illegal structures from Aramghar to the Dairy Farm junction as part of a road widening project. Teams identified constructions that encroached on the main road and contributed to traffic congestion.

Officials had earlier issued notices to property owners to remove the structures. However, they proceeded with demolitions after finding continued violations.

Further, teams used bulldozers to remove extended portions in front of shops and boundary walls. Police deployed large forces to prevent any untoward incidents during the operation.

Meanwhile, local owners protested against the demolitions and raised objections. They argued that the drive was carried out without adequate prior information.

Some shopkeepers entered into arguments with officials and police at the site. However, authorities continued the operation amid tight security.

At the same time, motorists said encroachments caused frequent traffic jams on the stretch. Therefore, officials stated that the clearance would help improve road width and ease vehicle movement.

Authorities added that similar drives would continue across the city to remove illegal structures and improve traffic flow.
