India reviews West Asia situation, ensures fuel and aviation stability

New Delhi: The Government of India reviewed the evolving West Asia situation India is closely monitoring, outlining key measures to ensure stability in aviation, fuel supply, and citizen safety.

Officials from multiple ministries briefed the media at the National Media Centre, highlighting coordinated efforts across sectors.

West Asia situation India: aviation sector remains stable

The Ministry of Civil Aviation adopted a multi-layered strategy to maintain operational continuity despite disruptions.

Due to airspace restrictions across countries such as Iran, Israel, and United Arab Emirates, airlines now operate longer routes to Europe and North America. As a result, travel times have increased.

However, timely intervention in Aviation Turbine Fuel pricing helped stabilise domestic airfares. Moreover, authorities introduced operational relaxations, including revised pilot duty norms, to manage crew shortages.

Fuel supply remains steady amid disruptions

Despite global uncertainties, the government ensured uninterrupted availability of petrol, diesel, and LPG.

Importantly, domestic LPG deliveries continue without disruption. Authorities also increased commercial LPG allocation to nearly 70% of pre-crisis levels.

In addition, PSU oil companies conducted awareness drives to promote 5 kg cylinders. Consequently, over 1.06 lakh cylinders were sold in a single day.

PNG expansion supports long-term energy security

The government accelerated the transition to cleaner fuels to reduce dependency on LPG.

Since March 2026, around 3.76 lakh PNG connections have been activated, while over 4.1 lakh new consumers registered.

Furthermore, authorities encouraged households and businesses to adopt PNG and alternative energy sources such as electric cooking.

Maritime operations and seafarer safety ensured

Shipping operations across India remain normal, with no congestion reported at ports.

Meanwhile, authorities facilitated the return of over 1,691 Indian seafarers, including 92 in the last 24 hours.

The Directorate General of Shipping continues to monitor vessels in the Persian Gulf region to ensure safety.

Government support for Indians in West Asia

The Ministry of External Affairs strengthened support systems for Indian nationals in the region.

Since late February, about 7.6 lakh passengers have travelled from West Asia to India. Missions also helped evacuate citizens via alternative routes, including transit through neighbouring countries.

For instance, Indian nationals travelled from Israel through Egypt and Jordan, while those in Kuwait and Bahrain used routes via Saudi Arabia.

Coordinated response to ensure stability

The government emphasised strong coordination with States and Union Territories to prevent panic and misinformation.

Authorities also intensified enforcement drives against hoarding and black marketing of fuel.

Overall, the West Asia situation India continues to monitor has prompted a comprehensive and proactive response to ensure economic stability and public safety.
