Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena founder Kalvakuntla Kavitha will launch a water rights stir in Palamuru on May 8, focusing on alleged injustice in Krishna river water sharing.
She will begin the programme with prayers at the Jogulamba Temple. Later, she will address a public meeting at Choudarigudem in Mahabubnagar district. The event marks her first major political programme after forming the new party.
The meeting site lies near the proposed KP Lakshmi Devi Palli Reservoir under the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. Organisers have titled the gathering as the “Palamuru–Rangareddy Project Realization Meeting.”
Kavitha has raised concerns over Telangana’s utilisation of Krishna river waters. She has argued that the state has not fully used its share even after more than a decade of formation.
Water rights stir highlights irrigation delays
During her earlier outreach programmes, Kavitha pointed to delays in executing the Palamuru–Rangareddy project. She said several components of the scheme remained incomplete.
The upcoming meeting will focus on securing Telangana’s rightful share of river waters. It will also highlight pending works and irrigation priorities in the region.
Kavitha is expected to outline an agitation strategy during the programme. The plan aims to press both the Centre and the State government to speed up approvals and project execution.
Meanwhile, party leaders released the meeting poster at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills. Several leaders, including Naveen Achari and others, attended the event.
The water rights stir is likely to shape a broader political campaign on irrigation issues across Telangana.
