Adipur-Bhuj doubling project approved at ₹493 crore

New Delhi: Indian Railways approved the Adipur-Bhuj doubling project at a cost of ₹493 crore to strengthen rail capacity and improve connectivity in Gujarat’s Kutch region.

The project covers the 49-km Adipur-Bhuj section of Western Railway. It forms part of Indian Railways’ capacity augmentation programme aimed at supporting future passenger and freight growth.

Officials said the route is strategically important because several railway projects in the region are nearing completion. These include the Bhuj-Naliya Gauge Conversion, the Naliya-Vayor extension and new rail links connecting Naliya-Jakhau, Vayor-Lakhpat and Deshalpar-Luna.

As a result, additional passenger and freight traffic is expected to move through the corridor in the coming years. Therefore, Indian Railways approved the doubling work to improve operational efficiency and remove future bottlenecks.

Adipur-Bhuj doubling to boost freight movement

The project is expected to facilitate two additional passenger train services in each direction every day. Consequently, passengers will benefit from improved connectivity and greater travel convenience.

The doubled line will also support an additional 12 million tonnes per annum of freight traffic. Moreover, it will strengthen logistics networks and improve industrial connectivity across western Gujarat.

Railway officials noted that line capacity utilisation is projected to reach 123 percent by 2029-30. Hence, the doubling project will help decongest the route and improve the reliability of train operations.

In addition, the project is expected to generate higher revenue through increased passenger and freight movement. Officials said the investment would support economic growth in the Kutch region while enhancing the overall efficiency of the railway network.

Indian Railways stated that the Adipur-Bhuj doubling project represents another step towards building future-ready infrastructure and meeting growing transportation demand across the country.
