New Delhi: National e-Governance Division (NeGD) has partnered with the Association of Australian Education Representatives in India (AAERI) to launch the AAERI Verify platform for Indian students seeking admission to Australian universities.
The platform integrates directly with DigiLocker to enable secure, paperless and consent-based document verification. It was unveiled at the AAERI Annual Convention in New Delhi on August 7, 2026.
The AAERI Verify platform allows students to share authentic, issuer-verified digital records with Australian universities. This reduces the need for physical documents and manual checks.
The system covers academic, identity and financial records. It uses DigiLocker to connect universities with digitally signed documents issued by authorised institutions.
The new workflow has two stages. First, the Student Check takes place before the university application begins. Next, the Sponsor Check starts after a student receives an admission offer.
With the student’s explicit consent, Australian universities can access digital records from their original issuing authorities through DigiLocker. The process aims to reduce fraud risks, protect data privacy and speed up application processing.
How the AAERI Verify platform handles checks
AAERI launched the AAERI Verify platform in collaboration with NeGD as a source-verified authentication system. It replaces slower paperwork-based checks with a digital verification process.
Speaking about the initiative, NeGD Director Shri JL Gupta said the partnership showed how India’s Digital Public Infrastructure could address global challenges. He said the integration of DigiLocker with AAERI Verify would create a secure and trusted framework for international admissions.
Gupta also outlined NeGD’s role in India’s Digital Public Infrastructure. Established under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in 2009, NeGD supports project management, policy development and technology appraisals.
NeGD also manages technology platforms that connect different parts of the government ecosystem. Its work supports public processes across organisations such as the Union Public Service Commission, Ministry of External Affairs and NITI Aayog.
DigiLocker is a flagship Digital Public Infrastructure initiative under MeitY’s NeGD. It gives citizens a secure, consent-based platform to store, share and verify digital documents.
Developed under the Digital India programme, DigiLocker currently has more than 72 crore registered users. It supports the secure issuance, storage, sharing and real-time verification of digitally signed documents from authorised institutions.
The partnership aims to extend India’s digital document infrastructure into the international education sector. It also seeks to make document checks faster and more reliable for Indian students applying to Australian universities.
