Commonwealth Games bid: Ahmedabad emerges as top contender

Hyderabad: Ahmedabad has emerged as the frontrunner to host the upcoming Commonwealth Games, backed by both the central and Gujarat state governments. Officials said the city’s modern infrastructure and recent investments in sports facilities make it the most viable option for India’s bid.

Sports Ministry sources confirmed that they are preparing the proposal for submission to the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). The final decision will follow a detailed inspection of the venues and logistical readiness.

Government plans massive boost for sports infrastructure

Ahmedabad, having hosted major international events in recent years, is positioning itself as a global sporting hub. Officials said the Narendra Modi Stadium and nearby facilities will be the central venues for athletics and ceremonies. They also plan new arenas for indoor and aquatic events.

The Gujarat government has assured that necessary upgrades in transport, accommodation, and hospitality will be ready before the Games. The central government also expressed support, calling the event a chance to showcase India’s capabilities in hosting large-scale global tournaments.

Sports analysts believe that hosting the Commonwealth Games will boost India’s international reputation and significantly enhance grassroots sports development, both in Gujarat and across the country.
