Aluminium extrusion press project to boost defence manufacturing

Nagpur: Aluminium Extrusion Press infrastructure will receive a major boost on June 19 as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh performs the Bhoomi Pujan for a 10,000-ton facility at Yantra India Limited’s Ordnance Factory in Ambajhari, Nagpur.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar and senior officials will attend the ceremony. The project marks an important step in strengthening India’s defence manufacturing sector.

Officials said the facility will produce large, high-strength and precision aluminium alloy extrusions for defence and aerospace applications. As a result, India will strengthen its domestic production capacity for critical components.

The government expects the project to reduce dependence on imported aluminium extrusions. Moreover, it will support the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by expanding indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

The facility will also help meet rising demand from strategic sectors. Therefore, defence manufacturers will gain better access to specialised components produced within the country.

Aluminium Extrusion Press to strengthen self-reliance

The new facility will support defence modernisation and aerospace growth. In addition, it will improve supply chain security for critical manufacturing requirements.

Officials believe the project will create long-term industrial capacity. Furthermore, it will encourage technology-driven growth in the defence sector.

The government continues to invest in advanced manufacturing infrastructure across the country. Consequently, domestic industries can develop stronger capabilities in strategic sectors.

The Bhoomi Pujan represents another milestone in India’s efforts to build a self-reliant defence ecosystem and reduce reliance on imports.
