New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said the Centre constituted a high-level demographic change committee to study illegal infiltration and identify every infiltrator living in the country.
Speaking at a public programme in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Shah said the committee would examine artificial demographic changes, the reasons behind them and possible legal measures to prevent them. He stated that the panel would submit its report within one year.
The Union minister also said the government remained committed to identifying and deporting infiltrators. He urged people staying in India illegally to return voluntarily before the identification process intensified.
According to Shah, those who voluntarily returned would not face legal action. He claimed that infiltration continued unchecked during the previous government in West Bengal but alleged that infiltrators had started leaving after the change in administration.
Shah also congratulated the West Bengal government for handing over land required for border fencing within seven days. He said fencing and anti-infiltration infrastructure remained a priority for the Centre.
The Home Minister inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth ₹340 crore in Kalol and Gandhinagar North Assembly constituencies in Gujarat. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel attended the programme.

Amit Shah said the Modi government completed 12 years in office and claimed that the Gujarat development model had expanded across the country. He stated that the party’s governance now covered nearly 80 percent of India’s geographical area.
During the programme, Shah also paid tribute to Veer Savarkar on his birth anniversary. He said Savarkar dedicated his life to India’s freedom struggle and played a major role in shaping nationalist thought.
The Home Minister said Savarkar described the 1857 uprising as the First War of Independence when the British referred to it as a rebellion. He also highlighted Savarkar’s writings in the Cellular Jail and his work against untouchability.
Shah further said the government would continue strengthening villages through better sanitation, schools, libraries, gardens and sports infrastructure. He expressed confidence that Gandhinagar would emerge as one of the country’s most developed parliamentary constituencies.
