PMAY-G funds released for rural housing expansion

New Delhi: Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan released PMAY-G funds worth Rs 10,021.42 crore to 12 states under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin scheme.

The minister released the PMAY-G funds through video conferencing on Wednesday. Union Minister of State Dr Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani and senior officials joined the programme.

The beneficiary states included Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Centre aimed to achieve the “Housing for All” target by March 2029. He stated that authorities sanctioned 3.91 crore houses against the target of 4.95 crore houses under the scheme.

According to the minister, officials already completed construction of more than 3.05 crore rural houses across the country.

He said the scheme provided more than houses alone. The government also connected beneficiaries with roads, electricity, toilets, LPG connections and drinking water facilities.

PMAY-G funds support housing targets

Shivraj Singh Chouhan urged state governments to provide land for landless poor families. He said the measure would help more beneficiaries receive houses without delay.

The minister also asked states to clear pending grievances quickly. He instructed officials to complete approvals and utilise funds on time.

According to him, several states were yet to complete approvals under the 2024-25 and 2025-26 targets.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan appreciated innovations introduced by states. These measures included helplines, rainwater harvesting systems, self-help group support and mason training programmes.

He said the initiatives improved implementation of the rural housing scheme.

Highlighting women’s empowerment, the minister said nearly 75 per cent of houses under the scheme were sanctioned in the name of women or under joint ownership.

During the programme, Rural Development Secretary Rohit Kansal said the Centre earlier released Rs 11,121 crore for the 2026-27 financial year.

He added that this year’s housing target was three times higher than last year’s target.

The minister also appealed to beneficiaries to plant one sapling under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign on World Environment Day.
