Union Minister and Maharashtra CM inaugurate renovated Andheri RS Post Office under Jan Sewa Connect

New Delhi: Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the renovated Andheri Railway Station Post Office in Mumbai on 8 May 2026 under the Jan Sewa Connect initiative.

The post office, originally established in 1932–33, has been upgraded into a future-ready service hub. Moreover, the renovation aims to transform traditional facilities into modern, customer-centric and technology-enabled centres.

The Department of Posts implemented the project in partnership with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. Officials said the redesign focuses on improved infrastructure, enhanced customer amenities and digital integration.

Andheri RS Post Office has been selected under a Proof-of-Concept initiative covering 40 post offices across 17 states. Consequently, it became the first post office in Maharashtra and the second in India to be inaugurated under Jan Sewa Connect.

The upgraded facility features modern interiors, strengthened branding, efficient service systems and improved visual identity. In addition, the redesign supports faster service delivery and better customer experience.

India Post, with a network of more than 1.65 lakh post offices, continues to play a major role in financial inclusion and public service delivery. Furthermore, the department recorded 16% growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025–26, reflecting ongoing transformation efforts.

Jan Sewa Connect drives postal infrastructure modernisation

Under Jan Sewa Connect, India Post aims to reimagine post offices as accessible and digitally empowered community service hubs. Therefore, around 2,000 post offices in Maharashtra are proposed for upgradation.

The inauguration ceremony included the release of a special commemorative cover. Union Minister Scindia, Chief Minister Fadnavis, and senior postal officials participated in the event.

During the programme, the leaders highlighted the importance of modern infrastructure in improving citizen services. Moreover, they stated that the initiative aligns with the vision of a futuristic and citizen-focused postal network.

Officials confirmed that the Proof-of-Concept model will guide expansion across other locations. As a result, successful implementation at Andheri RS will support broader rollout under Jan Sewa Connect.

The renovated post office now operates as a technology-enabled hub designed to improve efficiency, service quality and accessibility for citizens in Mumbai.
