Guwahati: APEDA organised a Buyer Seller Meet in Guwahati to boost agri exports from Assam. The event brought exporters, importers and farmer groups onto a common platform.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority held the Organic Conclave-cum-Buyer Seller Meet with the Government of Assam. The programme aimed to strengthen export linkages. It also sought to improve access to domestic and global markets.
The APEDA Buyer Seller Meet saw over 30 exporters take part. In addition, nine importers and around 50 Farmer Producer Companies joined the event. As a result, stakeholders explored new business opportunities through structured interactions.
Assam offers strong export potential due to its agro-climatic diversity. For example, products include Assam Joha Rice and speciality non-basmati rice. Moreover, fruits, spices and organic produce attracted buyer interest.
APEDA Buyer Seller Meet focuses on certification and market access
The conclave also featured a sensitisation session on the National Programme for Organic Production, 8th Edition. During the session, officials explained certification rules and labelling norms. This helped exporters, FPOs and FPCs understand compliance needs.
Meanwhile, Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora said the State and the Northeast had rich organic produce. He added that focused support in aggregation and infrastructure would help farmers reach global markets.
Similarly, Agriculture Production Commissioner Aruna Rajoria said Assam had GI-tagged and organic products with strong demand. Therefore, she stressed closer coordination with APEDA to strengthen certification and market links.
APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev highlighted Assam’s export potential. Further, he said revised organic norms and recent trade agreements had expanded access to overseas markets.
Officials said the APEDA Buyer Seller Meet showed ongoing efforts to integrate Assam into India’s agri-export growth story.
