BCCI introduces injury replacement rule for multi-day domestic tournaments

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) implemented an injury replacement rule for multi-day domestic tournaments following injuries to Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes during the recent Test series between India and England that ended 2-2.

The cricket board modified its playing conditions to allow substitute players for serious injuries in upcoming domestic competitions. BCCI informed state associations about the new regulation, which permits replacement players under specific circumstances when team members suffer severe injuries during matches.

The injury replacement rule requires that injuries occur during play within the designated playing area as outlined in Article 1.2.5.2. The board specified that qualifying injuries must result from external impact and cause fractures, deep cuts, or dislocations that render players unavailable for the remainder of the match.

BCCI Injury Replacement Rule Covers Senior and Junior Multi-Day Competitions

State associations received guidelines for identifying suitable replacement players who will serve as equivalent substitutes for seriously injured team members. The regulation applies to multi-day matches in both senior and junior domestic tournaments.

The injury replacement rule will begin on August 28 with the Duleep Trophy and Under-19 CK Nayudu Trophy competitions. The new provision addresses player welfare while maintaining competitive standards in domestic cricket.

The implementation followed the India-England Test series during which the mentioned players sustained injuries. The board’s decision reflects emphasis on player safety and match continuity in Indian domestic cricket competitions.

The injury replacement rule ensures that teams can maintain competitive strength when players suffer qualifying injuries during domestic tournament matches. The regulation will apply specifically to multi-day format competitions across senior and junior levels.
