Bangalore: Airport pick-up system changes at Kempegowda International Airport received acceptance from nearly 95 percent of passengers, Bangalore International Airport Limited said, even as airport cab drivers protested against the new arrangements.
In a statement, BIAL said the updated airport pick-up system followed global best practices and remained under close monitoring. The operator said most passengers adapted comfortably to the changes despite initial resistance during the transition phase. BIAL also said it identified some genuine concerns and began addressing passenger feedback in a structured manner.
According to the operator, passenger experience remained the central focus during the rollout. Officials said the airport authority would monitor progress closely and expected the system to stabilise fully over the next 30 days.
Airport pick-up system linked to passenger safety concerns
BIAL also highlighted long-standing safety concerns linked to unauthorised taxi operations at the airport. The operator cited repeated complaints, including from solo women travellers, about drivers coercing passengers mid-journey to pay fares far higher than regulated rates.
In several cases, drivers allegedly abandoned passengers when they refused to meet unlawful demands. BIAL said such practices posed a greater safety risk than a 300 to 500 metre walk from the terminal to authorised pick-up points. Therefore, the operator stressed the need to strengthen a regulated and authorised transport ecosystem at the airport.
The statement said the airport authority would continue engaging with stakeholders while prioritising passenger safety and system stability.
