BJP backs electoral roll revision, urges support for SIR process

Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the BJP would fully support the ongoing electoral roll revision exercise and urged party leaders and workers to actively assist in ensuring accurate voter lists across the country.

Speaking in New Delhi on Thursday, Kishan Reddy described the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) as a constitutional and statutory exercise undertaken by the Election Commission of India to enhance transparency, accuracy and credibility in electoral rolls.

He said the revision process is progressing in phases across the country and has moved forward smoothly, including in states governed by the BJP. He added that the exercise is an important reform aimed at updating voter records and strengthening the electoral system.

Kishan Reddy appealed to political parties not to politicise the process. Instead, he called for cooperation to ensure that electoral rolls remain accurate and up to date.

Electoral roll revision aims to ensure clean voter lists

The Union Minister said BJP MPs, MLAs and grassroots workers should actively participate in the process. He urged them to help identify duplicate, fake and illegal voter entries so that electoral rolls remain reliable.

He stressed that every eligible Indian citizen must have the right to vote. At the same time, he said authorities must remove ineligible or duplicate entries to protect the integrity of elections.

According to Kishan Reddy, maintaining a clean voter list is essential for safeguarding democracy and strengthening public confidence in the electoral process. He reiterated that the BJP would extend full cooperation to the Election Commission in carrying out the electoral roll revision exercise.
