CBN seizes 52 kg MD in Madhya Pradesh’s largest drug bust

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Narcotics carried out a 52 kg MD seizure in Madhya Pradesh, dismantled a clandestine methamphetamine factory near Mhow, and arrested three persons under the NDPS Act, 1985.

The three-day operation marked the largest action of its kind by any agency in the State. Officers seized 43.820 kg of high-quality MD/Methamphetamine from the illegal laboratory in Village Thavalay under Mhow Tehsil, Indore district. They also recovered more than 260 kg of chemicals and sophisticated modern equipment. The total 52 kg MD seizure during the entire operation stood at 51.992 kg.

The operation began on the night of 13.02.2026 after specific intelligence reached the CBN Neemuch branch. Acting swiftly, officers intercepted a bus at Mandsaur and recovered 8.172 kg of high-quality crystal MD from two passengers. The contraband was packed in five polythene packets and concealed in two boxes. Both accused admitted possession.

Further questioning revealed that the drugs came directly from a clandestine manufacturing unit. Consequently, CBN formed special teams from Neemuch, Ujjain, Jaora and Mandsaur to trace the source.

Following coordinated searches, officers located the suspected laboratory near Mhow in the early hours of 14 February 2026. However, strong chemical fumes forced them to delay entry due to health risks. A specialised team equipped with Personal Protective Equipment later conducted the search.

Inside, officers found modern machinery and plant installations used for synthetic drug production. As dismantling required technical expertise, CBN sought assistance from the Government Opium and Alkaloid Works, Neemuch. A four-member team of engineers and chemists reached the site on the midnight of 15.02.2026. They helped dismantle and secure the equipment. Authorities completed the proceedings in the early hours of 15 February 2026.

Officials formally charged the two persons intercepted at BPL Chauraha, Mandsaur under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. They also detained the house owner where the laboratory operated.

Further investigation is underway to identify and dismantle the wider network involved in manufacturing and distributing synthetic drugs. The CBN said the operation demonstrated strong inter-district coordination and reaffirmed its resolve to curb narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
