New Delhi: Jitendra Singh on Thursday said India’s clean energy push is positioning the country as a global player through a mix of innovation, policy support, and industry participation.
He said India is advancing hydrogen, nuclear, and renewable energy simultaneously. Moreover, the focus remains on building domestic capabilities in critical technologies.
Speaking at the World Hydrogen Energy Summit, the Minister highlighted the importance of collaboration. He said partnerships between government and industry are key to scaling up innovation.
Clean energy push drives multi-pronged strategy
The Minister said India is adopting a multi-dimensional energy strategy. It combines energy security with sustainability. At the same time, the country is expanding investments in oil and gas.
He noted that India aims to increase the share of natural gas in its energy mix to 15 percent. Additionally, refining capacity continues to grow steadily.
On the transition front, he highlighted the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The mission has an outlay of ₹19,744 crore. It aims to build a strong alternative fuel ecosystem.
Furthermore, green hydrogen is expected to decarbonise sectors like steel and cement. Efforts are also underway to reduce production costs through innovation.
The Minister also spoke about nuclear energy expansion. He said the Nuclear Energy Mission targets 100 GW capacity by 2047. This marks a major step in clean energy generation.
In addition, India plans to develop five small reactors by 2033. Work has already started on some of these projects. These reactors will offer flexible and decentralised energy solutions.
He added that policy reforms now allow private participation in the nuclear sector. As a result, startups and MSMEs can contribute to growth.
The Minister also highlighted emerging job opportunities. Sectors like electric mobility, battery recycling, and renewable manufacturing are creating new roles.
Finally, he said India’s demographic strength and innovation capacity give it a strong advantage. Therefore, the country is well placed to contribute to global decarbonisation efforts.
