Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Thursday described the Women’s Reservation Act as a milestone and said it would ensure 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies.
He said the Centre introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam to strengthen women’s political empowerment. Moreover, he added that the Modi government remained committed to expanding women’s participation in governance.
Rao stated that the government had already introduced a constitutional amendment in Parliament. He explained that this move would enable the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act from 2029.
Furthermore, he said the government was proceeding with the delimitation process. According to him, the legislation would address women’s long-standing demand for equal representation.

Rao said the Women’s Reservation Act would turn the long-pending demand for equal political representation into reality. “With this legislation, the dream of equal representation which women have cherished for many years is set to become a reality,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on behalf of women in Telangana. In addition, he extended his wishes to women across the state and said the decision would open a new phase of empowerment.
Rao claimed that the legislation became possible due to Modi’s leadership. He added that its implementation would significantly increase women’s role in politics.
He noted that India’s population had reached 1.4 billion. Therefore, he said there was scope to increase the number of seats by about 50 percent. He added that reserving 33 percent of these seats would ensure fair representation.
Meanwhile, Rao rejected claims that the law would harm any state or region. He termed such statements false propaganda and urged people not to be misled by what he described as a campaign by the Congress party.
He said the Women’s Reservation Act would ensure women secure their rightful place in legislative bodies.
