Congress accuses BRS of fake news campaign against Naveen Yadav in Jubilee Hills

Hyderabad: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee accused the Bharat Rashtra Samithi of orchestrating a deliberate fake news campaign to damage Congress candidate Naveen Yadav’s reputation in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency.

TPCC spokesperson Syed Nizamuddin made the allegations during a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday. He claimed that BRS leaders deployed fabricated social media content to undermine Yadav’s growing popularity among voters.

“The craze for Naveen Yadav among the people of Jubilee Hills has shaken the BRS leadership,” Nizamuddin stated. “Unable to accept the wave of support for the Congress candidate, the BRS has resorted to cheap, unethical tactics and false propaganda through social media.”

Nizamuddin detailed specific instances of the alleged misinformation campaign. He said BRS operatives created a doctored news clip falsely attributing anti-Muslim remarks to Yadav. The fabricated content used the dateline and layout of a prominent Telugu daily to appear legitimate.

“They created a fake news clip claiming that Naveen Yadav had made objectionable remarks against Muslims. This is completely false, baseless, and malicious. He has never made such a comment at any time or on any platform,” the spokesperson declared.

Additionally, Nizamuddin referenced another fabricated story circulated days earlier claiming “Hydra will demolish houses in Jubilee Hills.” He said this fake report also mimicked the format of a Telugu newspaper to create panic among residents.

The TPCC official described these incidents as evidence that BRS had become a “habitual offender” in spreading false information. He argued that instead of addressing its governance record in Jubilee Hills over the past decade, BRS was attempting to deflect attention through character assassination.

Congress demands investigation into fake news campaign targeting candidate

Nizamuddin announced that Congress would file a formal complaint with the Cyber Crime Police requesting a comprehensive investigation. He demanded action against not only the social media accounts that published the false content but also those who “conceived, designed, funded, and circulated” the misinformation.

Furthermore, he urged Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar to take suo motu cognizance and register cases against the responsible parties. The spokesperson emphasized that Congress supported “clean politics and truth-based campaigning.”

The TPCC representative characterized the alleged fake news campaign as a sign of BRS desperation. He claimed that Yadav’s candidacy had generated “unprecedented enthusiasm and optimism” throughout the constituency since Congress announced his selection.

Nizamuddin specifically highlighted Yadav’s background as a young leader from the Backward Classes who had earned “tremendous public support.” He suggested this popularity had prompted BRS to resort to what he termed “false propaganda.”

The spokesperson appealed to Jubilee Hills voters to verify information and remain vigilant against misinformation. He warned citizens not to believe or share unsubstantiated content circulating on social media platforms.

In conclusion, Nizamuddin expressed confidence in Congress prospects for the by-election. He predicted that Yadav would secure victory with a “record-breaking majority” due to unified party support and substantial public backing throughout the constituency.
