New Delhi: Delhi pollution curbs were tightened on Wednesday as authorities in the national capital rolled out strict measures to control worsening air quality, including a ban on vehicles that do not meet the latest emission norms.
The Delhi government also regulated attendance in private and government offices as part of the emergency steps. Officials said the measures aimed to reduce vehicular emissions and limit human activity during peak pollution levels.
The air quality index in the Delhi region, which is home to about 30 million people, remained in the “severe” category for several days. Levels frequently crossed the 450 mark, indicating hazardous conditions for public health.
Delhi pollution curbs amid fog and transport disruption
Meanwhile, shallow fog covered parts of the city and further reduced visibility. As a result, flight and train operations faced disruptions at several locations. Authorities said weather conditions combined with high emissions continued to worsen air quality across the region.
Officials warned that restrictions would remain in place until pollution levels showed sustained improvement. They also urged residents to limit outdoor activity and follow advisories issued by civic agencies.
