New Delhi: The Government of India expanded digital services through UMANG and DigiLocker to improve citizen access to public services.
As of 31st July 2026, UMANG offered about 2,575 services across India. These included 880 Central Government services and 1,695 State Government services.
DigiLocker offered 5,437 document types and services. Of these, 661 came from the Central Government and 4,776 from State Governments.
UMANG had more than 11.66 Crore registered users. The platform recorded about 798 Crore transactions during the last three years.
Meanwhile, DigiLocker had more than 72.43 Crore registered users. It recorded about 72.86 Crore document access transactions over the same period.
The Government launched the Digital India programme in July 2015. It has since introduced several measures to improve digital access and citizen-centric service delivery.
Both UMANG and DigiLocker are available through mobile applications and web portals. Therefore, citizens can access government services from different locations and at different times.
The platforms also connect with key Digital Public Infrastructure components. These include Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu.
Such integration supports paperless service delivery and digital verification. It also allows secure authentication and consent-based sharing of information.
Digital services reach rural and remote areas
The Government has also expanded Common Service Centres to improve digital access in rural and remote areas. These centres provide several citizen-focused services.
Their services include government facilities, banking, financial services, insurance and pension services. Citizens can also use CSCs for utility payments.
As of 30 June 2026, 4,07,122 CSCs were functional at the Gram Panchayat level. Women Village Level Entrepreneurs operated 70,069 of these centres.
The Government also promotes digital literacy through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan. Awareness campaigns encourage citizens to use digital platforms.
In addition, UMANG and DigiLocker provide services in multiple Indian languages. The Government continues to improve accessibility and the overall user experience.
Government departments and State Governments are also regularly added to the platforms. This process expands the range of available services and digital documents.
The Government said these measures would help improve access in rural, remote and underserved regions. They also aim to reduce the need for physical visits and paper-based processes.
The statement was given by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha on 07-08-2026.
