Hyderabad: Police arrested an Odisha girl and seized 11.4 kg of dry ganja worth ₹5.7 lakh during a joint operation in the SR Nagar area on Friday.
The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone team, along with SR Nagar police, conducted the operation. Police identified the accused as Rinita Raita, 30, a resident of Gajapati district in Odisha. She worked as a sub-peddler, police said. Officers also seized a mobile phone during the dry ganja seizure.
Task Force personnel acted on specific information and intercepted the accused. Police registered a case and shifted her to SR Nagar police station for further investigation.
Dry ganja seizure exposes interstate supply link
During questioning, the accused told police that financial distress drove her into drug peddling. She said her husband worked as a daily-wage farmer and earned very little. Earlier, she worked as a construction labourer but struggled to support her family.
Police said she disclosed the role of her cousin, Maniel Dalabehera, a resident of Patangapadar village in Odisha. He supplied ganja to Hyderabad and Rangareddy areas. Last week, she contacted him seeking work. He later met her at Chadampur Bazar and asked her to travel to Hyderabad to sell dry ganja.
Inspector Ch. Yadender and Sub-Inspector D. Ravi Raj of the West Zone Task Force supervised the arrest. SR Nagar police staff assisted in the operation.
Police appealed to youth and the public to stay away from drugs. They warned against the lure of easy money. Officers urged citizens to report suspicious drug-related activity by dialling 100. They said public support was vital to make Hyderabad drug-free.
