Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS senior leader T. Harish Rao on Monday questioned police inaction over serious allegations against Congress leaders and accused the force of selective action.
Speaking to reporters at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao said allegations had come from within the Congress party itself. He recalled that the daughter of Minister Konda Surekha alleged traders faced threats at gunpoint and paid commissions. He said she named Rohin Reddy, whom he described as a close aide of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, as the person who issued the threats.
Harish Rao said such claims demanded immediate action. However, he alleged that police inaction continued despite the seriousness of the accusations and public disclosure by Congress leaders themselves.
Harish Rao raises questions on SITs amid police inaction claims
Harish Rao also referred to a complaint from Alampur involving alleged extortion. He said Revanth Reddy’s close associate and AICC leader Sampath Kumar threatened contractors and demanded ₹8 crore. He added that the contractor had approached the police directly.
Despite this, Harish Rao asked why police did not arrest the accused or form a Special Investigation Team. He said the continued police inaction raised doubts about equal enforcement of the law.
He alleged that the government readily formed SITs to target journalists and BRS leaders. However, he questioned why the same response did not apply when allegations involved Congress leaders.
Addressing Director General of Police Shivadhar Reddy, Harish Rao asked what happened to the “khaki rule book” often cited by the police. He also questioned City Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar over alleged intimidation of journalists.
Harish Rao further criticised claims that SITs were formed without the Chief Minister’s knowledge. He said selective policing and police inaction eroded public trust and weakened the rule of law.
