Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board announced a Hyderabad water supply disruption in several parts of the city due to emergency repair works on a major Godavari drinking water pipeline.
Officials said engineers detected a leakage in a 3,000 mm diameter MS pumping main near Srinivas Nagar Bridge, close to the Bommakkal pumping station. The pipeline forms a key part of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme.
Therefore, the board decided to carry out urgent repair works to prevent further damage and ensure system safety. Officials said the repairs are unavoidable and must be completed without delay.
According to HMWSSB, the repair work will start at 1 pm on Friday, January 2. It will continue until 6 am on Saturday, January 3. As a result, water supply will remain disrupted for 19 hours.
Officials said supply will resume gradually after completion of the repairs. They added that pressure stabilisation may take some time in certain localities.
Hyderabad water supply disruption to affect multiple divisions
HMWSSB said areas under O&M Division VI will face disruption. These include SR Nagar, Sanathnagar, Borabanda, Erragadda, Banjara Hills, Vengal Rao Nagar, Somajiguda, and Fatehnagar.
O&M Division IX areas such as Kukatpally, KPHB, Moosapet, Bharat Nagar, Vivekananda Nagar, Mothinagar, Gayatri Nagar, Balanagar, and Hasmathpet will also be affected.
Under O&M Division XII, residents in Chintal, Suchitra, Jeedimetla, Shapur Nagar, Gajularamaram, Suraram, Adarsh Nagar, Jagadgirigutta, and Ushodaya Nagar will experience interruption.
The disruption will extend to O&M Division XIII covering Alwal, Yapral, Macha Bollaram, Venkatapuram, Defence Colony, Gautam Nagar, and Sainathpuram. Areas under O&M Division XIV in Kapra Municipality, including Cherlapally, Saibaba Nagar, and Radhika, will also face supply issues.
O&M Division XV areas such as Kondapur, Doyens Colony, and parts of Madhapur will be affected. In addition, Division XVII areas of Hafeezpet and Miyapur will face disruption.
HMWSSB said areas under O&M Division XXI will also be impacted. These include Kompally, Gundlapochampally, Thumkunta, Jawahar Nagar, Dammaiguda, Nizampet, Bachupally, Pragathi Nagar, Gandimaisamma, Tellapur, and Bollaram.
Water supply will also remain disrupted in Transmission Division IV areas. These include MES lines, Trishul lines, Gunrock, Hakimpet Air Force area, Secunderabad Cantonment, and AIIMS Bibinagar. Rural Water Supply offtakes at Aleru and Ghanpur will also face interruption.
The water board urged residents in the affected areas to use drinking water sparingly during the disruption period. Officials said the emergency repairs will help restore reliable supply and prevent future failures.
