New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched India’s first Hydrogen train and inaugurated development projects worth around ₹14,700 crore in Jind, Haryana, on Friday. He said the train marked a historic milestone for Indian Railways and showcased the success of the Make in India initiative.
Modi said India had become one of the few countries to operate hydrogen-powered trains. Moreover, he said the country’s first Hydrogen train runs with 10 coaches and delivers 3,200 horsepower. He added that the project demonstrated India’s engineering capability in advanced green mobility.
The Prime Minister said the train would operate on the 90-km Jind-Sonipat route. He noted that hydrogen technology represents the future of rail transport. Therefore, he said Indian Railways had taken a major step towards clean and sustainable mobility.
He also said the train produces no emissions. Furthermore, Indian engineers designed the technology, while domestic companies built the train. He described the project as a strong example of the Make in India programme.
Hydrogen train launch accompanies major infrastructure push
Besides launching the train, Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated projects covering railways, highways, healthcare and cultural infrastructure. The package included the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway section, the Jind-Gohana National Highway and the Ambala-Kala Amb four-lane project.
He also dedicated Pandit Neki Ram Sharma Medical College in Bhiwani and Maharishi Chyavan Medical College with Rao Tularam Hospital in Narnaul. According to the Prime Minister, these institutions will improve healthcare services and create more opportunities for medical students.
Meanwhile, Modi said India had adopted a new National Sports Policy and the Khelo Bharat policy. He noted that programmes such as Khelo India and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme provide better support for athletes. He also urged sportspersons to prepare for the 2036 Olympic Games, which India aims to host.
In addition, the Prime Minister appreciated Haryana residents for their Swachhta Se Swagat campaign. He urged people to make cleanliness part of their daily routine. Finally, he said the projects would strengthen Haryana’s economy and support the country’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
