New Delhi: Indian Railways has approved Tadali–Ghugus doubling at a cost of ₹228 crore. The project will increase freight capacity on the Delhi–Chennai High Density Network in Maharashtra.
The project covers the 14-km railway section between Tadali and Ghugus. It forms part of the Wardha–Balharshah route. Moreover, Indian Railways cleared the work under its railway capacity expansion programme.
The section now operates on a single line. Therefore, the second line will improve train movement. It will also remove a major capacity constraint.
Freight trains on this route carry coal, iron ore, gypsum, petroleum products, sand and laterite ash. As a result, the project will support higher freight movement across the corridor.
Tadali–Ghugus doubling will increase freight capacity
After completion, Tadali–Ghugus doubling will add capacity for 4.5 million tonnes of freight every year. Consequently, industries along the route will benefit from faster and more reliable rail transport.
The additional line will improve operational efficiency. It will also reduce congestion on the Wardha–Balharshah section. Furthermore, it will strengthen one of India’s busiest freight corridors.
Indian Railways said the project supports its long-term infrastructure expansion plan. It also aims to improve freight efficiency across the national rail network.
In addition, the investment will strengthen rail connectivity in the region. It will help industries transport essential commodities more efficiently. Therefore, the project is expected to support regional economic growth.
