New Delhi: India Malawi energy cooperation was discussed during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
Union Minister Manohar Lal met Malawi’s Energy and Mining Minister Dr Jean Mathanga to review ties in the power and energy sector. Both leaders reaffirmed strong bilateral relations and stressed the need to deepen engagement.
They exchanged views on developments in their respective energy sectors. In addition, they identified areas for collaboration, including renewable energy, electricity access, and power sector planning.
The Ministers also emphasised the importance of capacity building. Therefore, both sides agreed to strengthen technical exchanges and institutional cooperation.
India Malawi energy cooperation focuses on renewable expansion
The discussion also highlighted Malawi’s membership in the International Solar Alliance. The initiative, launched by India and France, promotes global solar energy deployment.
Both countries expressed interest in expanding cooperation in solar and clean energy sectors. Moreover, they agreed to explore mutually beneficial opportunities in emerging energy technologies.
Officials said the meeting reflected a shared commitment to advancing development partnerships. It also aimed to improve energy access and sustainability in both countries.
The interaction took place in a cordial atmosphere, with both sides agreeing to maintain regular engagement. As a result, future cooperation is expected to strengthen bilateral ties further.
