New Delhi: A proud moment unfolded at Rashtrapati Bhavan as President Droupadi Murmu celebrated youth who choose service first. The occasion was the MY Bharat NSS Awards 2022-23. Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya attended with Minister of State Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse. Additionally, top officials, including Dr. Pallavi Jain Govil and Shri Hari Ranjan Rao, marked the importance of the day.
The Department of Youth Affairs organizes these awards annually under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The aim is to reward excellence and inspire wider participation. Ten NSS Units and their ten Programme Officers were honored this year. Moreover, 30 Volunteers received recognition for sustained, on-ground results.
Support followed recognition. Each Unit received ₹2,00,000 for programme development and a trophy. Every Programme Officer earned ₹1,50,000, a certificate, and a silver medal. Each Volunteer received ₹1,00,000, together with a certificate and a silver medal. Therefore, the ecosystem gains fresh energy and essential resources.
MY Bharat NSS Awards celebrate service, skills, and the ‘Not Me, But You’ ethos
The National Service Scheme started in 1969 to build character through community action. Its roots lie in Gandhian thought. Consequently, the motto “Not Me, But You” shapes daily practice. Today, about 40 lakh volunteers serve in NSS across India.
Volunteers respond where the community asks. They boost literacy and education. They work in health, family welfare, and nutrition. Furthermore, they protect the environment and run social service programmes. They promote women’s empowerment and enable economic development activities. In addition, they support rescue and relief during calamities. Finally, they champion Swachhata, which keeps neighborhoods clean and safe.
The MY Bharat NSS Awards 2022-23 carry a simple promise. When youth lead with compassion and skill, society advances faster. As a result, every honored effort becomes an invitation to join.
