New Delhi: Union Communications Minister Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said India 6G leadership will position the country at the forefront of global telecom innovation.
Replying to questions in the Lok Sabha, he said India has transformed from a technology follower into a digital leader under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Moreover, he stressed that the communications revolution now reaches villages and remote regions, reshaping education, healthcare and livelihoods.
He stated that India rolled out 5G services at the fastest pace in the world. Within 22 months, telecom operators launched 5G in 99.9% of districts. As a result, the expansion set a global benchmark. Service providers invested nearly ₹4 lakh crore and installed over 5 lakh base transceiver stations across the country.
At present, 400 million citizens use 5G services. However, the government expects this number to reach 1 billion by 2030. Emphasising the roadmap ahead, he said, “India followed the world in 4G, marched with the world in 5G, and will lead the world in 6G.”
India 6G leadership backed by rapid 5G and broadband growth
The minister said India 6G leadership rests on strong digital infrastructure growth. Over the past decade, broadband connections increased from 60 million to 1 billion. Consequently, digital access expanded across urban and rural regions.
He also highlighted rural Wi-Fi expansion as a key driver of inclusion. According to him, Wi-Fi deployment is transforming connectivity in villages and small towns. In this context, he noted that Maharashtra ranks among the top states in Wi-Fi hotspot deployment.
Looking ahead, the government plans to deepen digital infrastructure further by 2030. Therefore, the focus remains on expanding connectivity and strengthening India’s position as a global telecom leader.
