India win Under-19 World Cup, beat England by 100 runs

Harare: India won the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup after beating England by 100 runs in the final at Harare on Friday.

As a result, India lifted the title for a record sixth time. Moreover, the victory confirmed India as the most successful team in the tournament’s history. It also completed a rare double, as India now hold both the men’s and women’s Under-19 World Cup titles.

Under the leadership of captain Ayush Mhatre, India completed the tournament unbeaten. Throughout the campaign, the team showed consistency and mental strength. Consequently, it dominated key matches on the way to the title.

Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered the defining performance of the final. He smashed 175 runs off 80 balls. Notably, it was the first 150-plus score in an Under-19 World Cup knockout match. Therefore, officials hailed it as one of the finest innings in the tournament’s history.

BCCI praises Under-19 World Cup triumph and pathway

Following the win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India praised the team’s discipline and depth. It also credited head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and his support staff for their guidance. In addition, the BCCI acknowledged VVS Laxman for strengthening the age-group pathway at the Centre of Excellence.

BCCI President Mithun Manhas said the sixth Under-19 World Cup title reflected India’s strong age-group structure. He added that holding both men’s and women’s titles showed the depth of Indian cricket.

Meanwhile, Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia congratulated the team on its unbeaten run. He said the triumph highlighted long-term player development and quality coaching systems. Similarly, Vice-President Rajeev Shukla said India’s age-group success resulted from sustained planning and talent nurturing.

Finally, the BCCI placed on record its appreciation for players, coaches and administrators. It also said it would continue investing in grassroots and age-group cricket.
