New Delhi: Indian Railways sped up 549 trains and introduced 122 new services under the Timetable of Trains (TAG) 2026, aiming to reduce travel time and improve punctuality across the national network.
Officials said TAG 2026 focused on faster services, better frequency, and improved operational efficiency. In addition to new trains, Indian Railways extended 86 services, increased frequency for eight trains, and converted 10 trains into superfast services. As a result, passengers across multiple zones are expected to benefit from shorter journey durations.
Several railway zones reported major changes under TAG 2026. The South Western Railway recorded the highest number of speed improvements, with 117 trains sped up. Meanwhile, the North Western Railway speeded up 89 trains, while the Southern Railway improved timings for 75 trains. Other zones, including Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western Railways, also implemented multiple speed enhancements and service extensions.
TAG 2026 trains included 122 new services across categories
Under TAG 2026, Indian Railways introduced 122 new trains spanning premium, express, and passenger segments. These included 28 Vande Bharat trains to strengthen semi-high-speed connectivity and 26 Amrit Bharat trains, four of which were introduced through TAG-TOD.
The new services also comprised 60 Mail and Express trains, along with two each of Rajdhani, Humsafar, Jan Shatabdi, and Namo Bharat Rapid Rail services. Officials said the additions aimed to improve regional connectivity while catering to diverse passenger needs.
Among the 549 trains speeded up, 376 services recorded time savings of 5 to 15 minutes. Another 105 trains reduced travel time by 16 to 30 minutes, while 48 trains gained between 31 and 59 minutes. Notably, 20 trains achieved time reductions of 60 minutes or more.
Indian Railways said TAG 2026 reflected its continued focus on passenger convenience and network efficiency. Officials added that faster trains and better scheduling would enhance reliability and strengthen rail connectivity across the country.
