Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha led a land acquisition protest in Vikarabad against plans to acquire farmland for the Parigi Industrial Corridor.
She staged the protest in front of the RDO office along with Visharadhan of the Dharma Samaj party. The agitation targeted land acquisition affecting small and marginal farmers.
Kavitha accused the Congress government of depriving farmers of their livelihoods in the name of industrial development. Moreover, she warned that such actions would face public rejection.
She said farmers in Kallapur, Rapole and Bhatla Chandaram were under distress due to large-scale land acquisition. Therefore, she said the protest aimed to highlight their concerns across the state.
Land acquisition protest highlights impact on farmers
Kavitha said nearly 1,000 acres out of the proposed 1,250 acres were assigned lands. She added that the remaining 250 acres belonged to SC, ST and BC farmers.
She alleged that the government targeted marginalised farmers while sparing large landowners. Consequently, she described the policy as unjust and discriminatory.
Further, Kavitha criticised the government over unresolved farmer issues. These included Rythu Bharosa payments, loan waivers, urea shortages and lack of Minimum Support Price.
In addition, she questioned the environmental approach of the project. She pointed to a contradiction between cleaning the Musi River and setting up industries nearby.
Kavitha said the land acquisition protest would continue until the government addressed farmer concerns. She warned that policies harming vulnerable groups would face strong resistance.
