Kutch: A mild Kutch earthquake struck Gujarat’s Kutch district early Friday, triggering panic among residents who rushed out of their homes after feeling tremors.
According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred around 4.30 am. It measured 4.4 on the Richter scale. Officials said the epicentre lay at a depth of 10 kilometres.
The NCS recorded the epicentre at latitude 3.65 degrees north and longitude 70.23 degrees east. Because of the shallow depth, residents felt tremors across parts of the district.
Soon after the tremors, people came out of their houses in fear. However, authorities said they received no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
Officials monitor situation after Kutch earthquake
Meanwhile, district authorities began monitoring the affected areas after the Kutch earthquake. Officials said teams remained alert to assess any delayed impact.
So far, officials have not reported any loss of life or property. They urged residents to remain calm and follow safety advisories.
Kutch lies in a seismically active zone and has experienced earthquakes in the past. Therefore, officials said they would continue close surveillance of the region.
